The Cotacachi volcano, also called Mother Cotacachi, is a dormant volcano with an altitude of 4939 meters (16000 feet). The slopes are rocky, with boulders and forests, common to the Andean zones in Ecuador. Climbing Cotacachi Volcano
We start our hike, leaving Otavalo at 4:30 am. We leave in our vehicle towards the antennas, at an approximate height of 4000 meters (13000 feet). At the start, the trek is in an Andean mountainside until we get to the upper rocky part, where there is snow, located at 4800 meters above sea level (15500 feet), where we will rest and we have a oportunty to see the avenue of the volcanoes like: Cotopaxi, Cayambe, Chimborazo, antisana and it´s sorroundings
Also we will eat our box lunch, and later in the afternoon we will be returning to Otavalo.
The approximate duration of the hike is 7 to 8 hours. For safety reasons, we will not ascend to 4939 meters (16000 feet) because the volcano is suffering erosion specially the summit part.
